Do you offer online and in-person sessions?
Yes - I see clients in person at my therapy room in St Albans and online by video call wherever you are based in the UK.
What happens in the first session?
We will spend the time getting to know each other. I'll ask about what's brought you to counselling, a bit about your life and background and what you're hoping might change. You can ask me anything too. There's no obligation to continue after this session, it's a chance for both of us to see if it feels like a good fit.
How and when do I pay?
You can pay by bank transfer and I ask to be paid weekly after each session.
Is everything I say confidential?
Yes, with a small number of legal exceptions, for example, if I believe you or someone else is at serious risk of harm. I'll talk through the limits of confidentiality with you in our first session. I won't contact your GP or anyone else without your knowledge and agreement, except in those exceptional circumstances.
Why do I need to come at the same time and day every week?
Counselling is a commitment that works best when it is consistent and regular. I will hold the space uniquely for you at the same time, every week.
Are you qualified and registered?
Yes - I hold a Diploma in Contemporary Psychodynamic Counselling from the Counselling Foundation in St Albans which is a BACP accredited course. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
How many sessions will I need?
There's no fixed number. Some people come for a few months to work through something specific whilst others stay longer to do deeper, more open-ended work. We'll keep this under review together and you're free to end whenever you feel ready.
Can I cancel or reschedule sessions?
Yes - with at least 24 hours notice you are able to cancel the session or request to reschedule. I will always try and offer you an alternative time. For less than 24 hours notice, a cancellation fee of £60 will apply (the session fee).
Frequently asked questions
What is counselling and how is it different from talking to a friend?
Counselling gives you a regular, confidential space where the focus is on you and your feelings. I can help you to see patterns that you may not have recognised without us encountering shared personal histories, judgments or biases that may occur with a friend or family member.
